Basketball

One of the most if not the most popular sport here in the Philippines. What is it that draws Filipinos to basketball? We already have a physical disadvantage of our small structure because in basketball height is might as my PE teacher once said. Can something of western influence be nationalistic? Shouldn't it be that we popularize our own sports such as 'sipa'? Why is it that we don't give much attention to our national sport? Everyday as i come home from school i see street children playing 'sipa' as well as basketball. What is it in basketball that makes it so popular here in the Philippines compared to other sports?

People enjoy playing basketball more than other sports, they really do not care where it originated, try asking the people playing it, more than 50% of them do not know James Naismith. What really matters is, how people play and enjoy the game.

we keep on fostering our love for basketball, not that it's intrinsically wrong. the RP basketball team receives the most publicity and support while other sports are all but ignored (like dragonboating, etc.). we don't even have to go that far. in the uaap, the men's basketball games are the most watched, while the other sporting leagues are ignored by the audiences. sad, really.

yes, if only our government funds sports that we're good at instead of something that we haven't accomplished much against international teams

basketball is popular than sipa because as you can see among the universities basketball is the most awaited to watch especially in the UAAP.
and we all know that many of us copy the West. The West has influenced our country a lot from fashion to music to attitude and even to sports such as basketball.

Bombared by the media, the UAAP is. Just another profitiring organization being covered up by sports. A DLSU-ADMU patron ticket reached up to PHP25k if i'm not mistaken. Soooo nationalistic isn't it?
