Services for the Benefit of Others

Being a nurse is the most popular job nowadays in our country. There are a lot of people who are studying such course because they know that it is the job that is in demand as of the moment. Even those who already earned their professional degrees study again to be a nurse. What are the perks of being a nurse nowadays? They are highly in demand here in the Philippines and in other countries as well. They are highly paid for the services they do especially if they work outside the Philippines.

So how do we connect this to Filipino Nationalism? Well, I think that it is connected to such topic because the nurses who are studying in our country do not really give their services to their fellow Filipinos. I am not saying that all nurses are doing such thing but in general, isn’t it that when nurses here graduate they tend to look for jobs in other countries first rather than thinking of serving their own country? They study here in the Philippines but offer their services to other countries. Where is Filipino Nationalism there? I think that there’s none. If these nurses choose to serve their own country first rather than look for jobs outside the Philippines, that’s when I will believe that they still have that spirit of Filipino Nationalism in them. We are all aware that when they work in other countries, they will earn more because they could be paid with higher amounts of money but when you think about it, isn’t that too selfish? I know that we should think about our own needs first before we think about others but can’t we also take into consideration the needs of our fellow countrymen? These nurses could also earn here in the Philippines when they serve here. They could earn but not as much as how they would earn in other countries but if they would just learn how to budget and use their earnings wisely, they could be successful in that field without leaving their own country. Lastly, what’s so good about that thing is that they could feel happier and fulfilled being able to serve their fellow Filipinos rather than trying to fit in with others in a place elsewhere.

It only depends what hospitals you visit, visit private hospitals and nurses are surely available, public hospitals, there are few.
As much as we nurses wanted to stay in the Philippines we also need to survive and feed our family.
The only way is to apply in a private hospital but since these hospitals do not have job vacancy, then we go abroad to earn more.

sometimes there are nurses who prefer to serve their own country however due to financial crisis they just grab the opportunity to work abroad. there are some who after earning much money abroad then they put up business here in the Philippines.
however, i agree with you that there are really a number of nursing students who are really selfish because they just want to earn a lot of money that's why they're taking a nursing degree in the hope of working abroad.
the intriguing case is among nursing students who are graduates of state universities and colleges. after graduation, they should serve their country first for around 2 to 3 years before going abroad and they don't have the right to complain against the government because it's the government who supported for their education anyway.
